The Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS)

A long-standing stalwart in the immigration policy community, The Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) offers extensive analysis on immigration issues. With a five-fold mission that involves research, sponsorship, journal publication, faith-based institutional support and historical record, CMS offers a broad, non-governmental resource to scrutinize immigration policy.

CMS has long styled itself as a non-partisan think tank, with consultative status at the UN and with policy makers on regional, national and local levels. Nevertheless, with the strict anti-immigration policies of the Trump administration, CMS has invariably found themselves on the opposing aisle. While their publications and sponsorships are grounded in facilitating an even-handed discussion about pressing immigration issues, CMS have voiced a visceral distaste for Trump’s policy on DACA and the approach to undocumented families.

CMS continues to provide extensive informational materials, from the International Migration Review to the Journal on Migration and Human Security as well as a collection of essays, lectures and books that continue to outline policy. In addition, events range from addressing the global impact of the refugee crisis to symposiums on localized and state issues. You can find more information about their events here.

With a board of trustees including Bishop of Brooklyn Nicholas DiMarzio and Reverend Moacir Balen, the faith-based roots of CMS certainly inform and shape the perspective and manner in which CMS approach their work.
