Southern Poverty Law Center

A pre-eminent legal resource in fighting for justice and equal opportunity, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and its team of lawyers and legal experts have won landmark victories on behalf of exploited and neglected individuals and communities.

Founded in 1971 on the tails of the Civil Rights Movement, SPLC was set up to ensure that the legacy of those who strived for equality in the 1950s and 1960s would be upheld. Since then, their actions have championed the rights of the disenfranchised and helped dismantle the remnants of the exploitative institutions of the past.

With a four-pronged mantra that includes fighting hate, teaching tolerance, seeking justice and upholding the legacy of the civil rights movement, SPLC has mounted a broad platform to challenge the archaic and discriminatory relics of the United States.

Recent fights by the SPLC have also focused on LGBT rights, Children’s Rights, Immigrant Justice, Economic Justice and Social Justice Reform. They also maintain a stringent documentation of hate groups in the United States and work hard in order to highlight awareness and reduce the impact of these organizations.
